José Prudencio Vargas is a misnomer, given how reckless—even suicidal—he is on the mountain roads of the Cuzco region! It is surely this recklessness that led this buyer and exporter from the region’s finest farms to become a producer himself, much to our delight. These high-altitude Geishas, grown in the heart of the “Manu Biosphere Reserve,” yield one of the finest cups we’ve selected this year in South America. The aroma reveals delicate notes of jasmine and elderflower, which are precisely reflected in the cup. The whole is carried by a bright, juicy acidity reminiscent of clementines.
